1. Identify when and how much you drink.
2. Make a commitment to quit- set a definite date and time.
3. Write down the reason you want to cut down or quit. Remember that
the reason you want to quit must be for yourself.
4. Learn to say NO. You do not have to drink when other people drink.
5. Stay active. Find alternative activities that don’t include
drinking.
6. Get support. Your friends and family can provide support to help
you stay on track.
7. Watch out for temptations. Watch out for people, places or times
that make you drink, even if you do not want to. Do not drink when you are angry
or upset or have a bad day. These are habits you need to break if you want to
drink less.
8. DO NOT GIVE UP! If you do not reach your goal the first time, try
again. Get support from the people around you.
9. Don’t do it alone. Get professional help from SCCADA, Alcohol
support groups such as AA or your family physician.
