"Camp is the best thing that ever happened to me!" a 7th grade student from Sabine Junior High.

A project for middle school youth focusing on character education, alcohol and drug prevention, self-esteem and confidence building is held during Spring Break and Summer in a camp setting.  This project serves all youth of Texas.  It has been funded by Region VII Education Service Center, Ben and Mattee Fisch Foundation, Hibbs Family Foundation, East Texas Community Builders Foundation, Louise Ornelas and private donations.

Established in 2003 the CAMP SCCADA project provides middle school youth the opportunities through skill-based activities, classroom lessons, and fun events, to discover within themselves the abilities and skills needed to succeed and achieve goals in life.  Campers participate in arts & crafts, horsemanship activities, leadership, guitar lessons, challenge ropes courses, hiking, cooking, sports, team building activities, canoeing, swimming, Discover SCUBA diving instruction and recreational activities.  Campers will attend daily class sessions on the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse and character education.  Youth development is the center of all camp activity.  The camp program is held twice during the year at Spring Break and summer.

In Spring 2006, CAMP SCCADA held its first Counselor-In-Training/Leadership Training session for 8th –high school students separate from the normal camp project.  This specialized training was held to prepare students to take leadership roles in the camp setting as well as in the school setting.  Students participated in team building, self esteem building and other interactive sessions.
